Somewhere only we know by yume-darling Somewhere only we know by yume-darling
I just finished reading Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones and it inspired me to draw this of Howl/Howell Jenkins and Sophie Hatter. :] Title comes from Keane's "Somewhere only we know". The picture's also sorta inspired by the Studio Ghibli adaptation of the book because of the background that I attempted to imitate... XD; I tried to recreate the sky during the part about Howl's childhood with crayons to make it look sorta childish. Dunno if it worked.

Howl and Sophie were colored with Prismacolor and Roseart colored pencils. Stars done in crayon; sky done with watercolor.

Diana Wynne Jones.

Time: 2 hrs appx.

I really love how they seem to be chuckling at their special little secret. Very sweet and romantic. You already have a lot of comments for this, but I hate favoriting without commenting (Hint, hint).

Chuckling at their special little secret... or bickering under their breath? xD

Thanks a lot for the comment! And yeah... I do wish people would comment more but what can I do.

They could be bickering. And no one would know since the two are so goofy together...

But what is more romantic than a fireworks display of dying stars? So I suppose they make up very quickly.

:D Now that I know the song, this picture has more meaning (though it was lovely and meaningful enough before I knew it too)... I love that song :3

I just finished reading the book too!! I loved how Howl didn't care how he looked in the end, but then Sophie stupidly thought that he loved Miss Angorian >.> and then they were grinning madly at each other (hehehe)

Anyway, this is an awesome piece of work!

Lovely! I really like your shooting stars, which match Howl's colors. The crayon's a good contrast to the sharp lines and shapes of the drawing.

You make me wanna read the book. ;_; But the background does mimic the juvenile effect you were going for. =D Crayons are a wonderful invention, oh yeah! >D

You have to look at them like different things, though, because so many parts were different in the book, and in the movie. I love the art in the movie, though. :D I was sad though ebcause in the book his hair only changes slightly, so I thought it was funnier for him to make suck a big deal of it. XD

YEAH... after reading the book, I went back and watched the movie again and I was REALLY confused, especially by the ending. I really don't quite understand how Sophie was able to save Howl or resolve the conflict... :[ That's true about Howl being a lot more comically dramatic in the book. :D He and Sophie were a lot more cheeky and funny together in the book, which was not shown in the movie. It's understandable though, since a lot of things were cut out. However, I did like how in the movie, Sophie grew younger due to her emotions. It made her look a lot stronger and that she broke the spell all by herself.
